- What arouses your senses?
- When do you feel immersed in your sense of touch, taste, smell, sight, & sound?
- How do you experience love with all of your senses?
- What prevents you from being present?
Ever experienced sensory deprivation? Like being blindfolded during sex to heighten your sense of touch, taste, smell and sound; sending you into complete surrender, lusty anticipation and tortuous pleasure? There's nothing really comparable to feeling overcome with the multi-sensory, orgasmic pleasure of sex. But being a sensual person isn't limited to the bedroom. 'Cause, trust me, Keex ain't gettin' her groove back down here in the Caribbean. But I do feel more sensual than ever. Let's just say that sexual deprivation has certainly heightened my sensory awareness. LOL.
Island life has made me realize just how much the clamor and cacophony of New York city dulled my senses. I used to drown out the outside world and live in my head; processing most of life's experiences cerebrally instead of absorbing them through my senses and being aware of my emotional responses to them. I'd stomp the pavement on automatic pilot because New York can be so obtrusively loud, insurmountably stinky, wretchedly ugly and too crowded for comfort. And in that "New York minute" of a pace, it's easy to forget how to be present. Eventually, that sensory deprivation can turn into anxiety or depression. (Thank god for dance classes and sex!)
But here, my senses feel so alive. Like when unexpected tropical rain tickles my skin like tiny little fingertips. When I gaze across the expanse of the turquoise ocean at what seems to be an eternal rainbow illuminating against the soft grey hue of the sky. And that promising break in the clouds tempting more sunshine to bake my skin until it tingles with heat. The beach is even more spectacular after the rain. The water gently bathes my feet as they sink in the sand, filling the spaces between my toes. I sense its subtle resistance as I walk in further and completely submerge myself like a sacred baptism. I emerge, tossing my head back and feel my curls stretch down the center of my back as I listen to the conversation of birds. I dance from my bones with the ocean taking the lead. There is so much peace in total surrender. I feel inspiration surface and my dreams become more vivid. I feel connected to something far greater than me. Within that reassurance, I am present. I am a sensual being.
