- Do you feel fulfilled personally & professionally?
- Are you stuck in a rut or experiencing growth & expansion in your life?
- Do you feel passionate, purposeful, challenged & motivated in your career?
- Do you feel loved, supported, respected & inspired in your relationships?
I've been doing a lot of soul-searching over the last year. Navigating a major career change and moving overseas inspires lots of introspection; especially while living on a private resort island where there are literally no distractions. It forces me to be present. To be honest. To discover my most authentic self. So, I'm constantly assessing my choices and my level of happiness. I check my head to see if my thoughts are predominately positive, optimistic and hopeful versus negative, doubtful and fearful. I check my heart to see if it feels light, open and vulnerable rather than heavy, closed and guarded. I check my gut to see if it's riddled with nerves and anxiety, or if I'm feeling a strong sense of personal power.
My challenge is, I have an extremely adaptable personality which enables me to find the lessons and opportunities in every situation; even less than desirable ones. The danger is, I can easily adapt to "survival mode" and convince myself I'm happy, even if my dreams begin to fade into the distance and I get stuck in apathy and excuses. "Survival mode" is easy because it requires substantially less effort and risk than pursuing your dreams. But the energetic toll on your body, mind, and spirit is debilitating. Because who can truly thrive in a life that lacks passion, purpose, or meaningful relationships?
Over this past year I've admitted to myself that my spirit thrives when I'm performing, teaching, dancing, moving, writing, creating, or exchanging creative ideas and opinions. I feel most alive in environments where my mind is challenged, my creativity feels inspired, and I get to experience personal growth. Plus, I love exploring city streets, people watching, and sitting at my laptop in busy cafes while satisfying my gastronomic cravings. I cherish days filled with variety and unexpected opportunities. But while I'm a total people-person and city girl at heart, I also thrive in stillness. In fact, my spirit requires alone time. I need that sacred space to explore my thoughts, feel my emotions, nurture my creativity, and dream my dreams.
