I didn’t have 6-8 weeks to heal! My life felt like it was hanging in the balance. In a matter of 30 days, my husband abandoned me, I lost my home, I liquidated our business and, any belief I had in the “American Dream” and “happily ever after”, was shattered. Then, after my first near death experience in a car crash, I boldly re-located to NYC to start over as a newly-single 38-year old... becauseI booked this phenomenal gig. Yes, a blessing amongst the bullshit. And just as I was welcoming the generosity of the Universe, I sprained my foot on the first day of rehearsal. That was it. I had nothing left to cling to. There was no reason for hope. The Universe had unequivocally abandoned me and rendered me useless, just like my EX.
Automatic pilot sent me into “survival mode” which I’m sure was genetically transferred from my mother. As much as I try to convince myself that we’re vastly different, my life choices and circumstances are revealing an eery reflection of hers (except for the fact that she’s still happily married to her best friend and my dad). Both of us are strong, resilient and; when the going gets tough, we get tougher. We don’t cave into defeat. We somehow eek out the strength and rise above. My weapon of choice this time? Dr. Chen. Oh yes, I’d take advantage of the prescribed physical therapy given to me by my Western doctor, but I needed Dr. Chen’s ancient Chinese secret to heal my foot ASAP. And he did. After 3 acupuncture visits and 2 daily doses of pungent teas, I could walk, run, jump and hop on one foot; and do so pain-free! My incredulous physical therapist took me to task with every strength and stability test in the book and was shocked by my seemingly instantaneous recovery. In exactly one week, I was approved to return to the show. Back to rehearsal!
