I’ll admit it. I miss playing with balls. So, what’s a sexless Indie Girl to do? Well, I found a spot where I get to play with balls of all sizes while experiencing some physical gratification myself: Yamuna Studio, which is a beautifully branded movement therapy studio located in the West Village right by the Hudson River.
Yamuna Body Rolling is just one of the group classes taught there. YBR is a systematic and therapeutic technique created by Master Body Therapist, Yamuna Zake, through which rolling on balls of various sizes and densities increases body awareness, facilitates release of muscular tension, decreases chronic pain, increases flexibility and provides overall relaxation. It’s like getting a 75min massage for $20. Well, sorta. It doesn’t feel as indulgent or quite as effective as lying passively on a massage table and getting the muscle-specific work of an experienced and Licensed Massage Therapist. But, it does empower you to become your own “therapist” with the knowledge and effective tools to significantly improve the way you look, feel and move in your body. And that’s invaluable. Plus you get to play with balls!
