Turn Ons: Ideal spot for college scene people watching, if you're into that.
Turn Offs: The food. How can you go wrong with a burger and fries?

In true cougar mode, I exited the 1 train at 116th St-Columbia University trying to blend; rockin' an Adidas track suit and a ponytail hoping to grab the attention of any college dude damn near half my age, just to prove I've still got it. With divorce pending and a recent discovery of my 1st gray hair in the middle of pole dance class, I needed some type of validation. I was simultaneously PMSing and craving comfort food.
I was lured into Deluxe Diner on this bright & sunny NYC day because the outside seating area was bustling. I figured this had to be the mid-afternoon hot spot. Plus, the daily special was quiche with spinach and parmesan. Yum! I took my seat in the sun with my mouth watering in anticipation. I hadn't had quiche in forever! BUZZ KILL! They switched their special to ham and cheddar quiche. So, I switched to real PMS food: a burger with fries.
I waited for my meal while sipping on unsweetened mint iced tea with muddled lemon and fresh mint leaves which was decent. But, my meal? Total disappointment. The burger NEEDED all the fixins it could get; kinda like a dude with no personality. It needed the cheese, the bacon and the barbecue sauce as much as he needs a healthy bank account, good looks and a bangin' body. And even that's not enough for a second date. The unpleasant flavors lingered on my tongue like the scent of cheap cologne after a bad date.
How could so many people be wrong about a restaurant? Did I just catch it on a bad day? I mean, how could it be so popular when I found nothing redeeming about it? Maybe this is why I'm still single years after my separation; my taste if far too discriminating.
