Turn Ons: I can eat my favorite comfort food in good conscience; knowing that it's good for me and the planet. Plus, it proves that being environmentally and socially conscious doesn't have to take the fun or flavor out of food. In fact, it enhances it.
Turn Offs: My only gripe is that, despite its 4 locations in Manhattan, Queens & Brooklyn; it still feels like a bit of a long-distance relationship for this Uptown girl.

I figured I was finally ready for a healthy, new relationship; one that made me feel good about myself. A relationship that supported me, made me feel strong and helped my best "self" emerge... even if it only involved a healthy new relationship with food. Gotta start somewhere! So, I went to the Bare Burger location in Murray Hill to indulge in a healthy version of one of my greatest weaknesses; a bacon cheeseburger with fries!
Here's what makes Bare Burger different than other relationships I've had in the past. Bare Burger respects my need for an open and honest relationship; eager to divulge it's liaisons with local food artisans and sustainable farmers. It goes out of it's way to reassure me that everything it offers is organic, all natural, free-range, pasture-raised and grass-fed. Plus, I admire Bare Burgers strong sense of values. Besides offering the highest quality local foods, it's restaurants are built from sustainable and reclaimed materials and powered by renewable green energy sources from Green Mountain Energy. Yes, finally a relationship with substance.
The other thing I love about this casual dining spot is that it dares me to get a lil' kinky with my tastebuds. After all, variety is the spice of life. So I dared to be bold and different and ordered the Big Blue Bacon Burger with danish blue cheese, grilled onions, applewood smoked bacon, lettuce and pepperporn steak sauce. But, this was no ordinary burger. It was an OSTRICH burger, which was the menu-recommended pairing for the "Big Blue". But I also could've opted for beef, turkey, lamb, elk or bison. Now, this being my first foray into eating such a big bird, I was surprised by the unforgettably juicy and savory flavor explosion it left in my mouth. Oh, and not to be ignored were the deliciously hot and fresh, lightly salted fries made in 100% peanut oil. I was definitely feelin' the sparks between me and Bare Burger and knew this wouldn't be just a one night stand.
My only hang-up is the distance between us. This relationship would be so much easier if only my new love had a location closer to my house. But even with it's 4 locations in Queens, Brooklyn & Manhattan; it still feels like a long distance love affair.
