Happily Ever After

Whereas I used to be fascinated by self-help books, my literary taste has taken a sharp turn for memoirs about women with conservative backgrounds who become tantalized by the underworld which leads them into double-life scenarios and coming-of-age journeys that awaken themselves to their authenticity.

Jillian Lauren’s personal tale is no different.  A Jewish girl from Jersey drops out of NYU and strays from a path toward acting stardom and ends up a sex worker.  From stripper to high-class prostitute.  From high-class prostitute to harem member of a Bruenei prince.  While engulfed in a world with men of extreme opulence, narcissism and womanizing behavior, her parents believed she was away on location shooting her first big film.  Instead she was attending lavish nightly parties and vying for the attention of the prince amongst a bevy of international beauties; each one as manipulative and calculating as the next.  The financial payoff for the prince’s “love” was a prominent seat by his side which clearly established your rank amongst the throng of women.  But more importantly, it included shopping trips with no spending limit, gifts of expensive jewelry and a stack of cash upon your return home.

For Jillian, the lure of money and the “simplicity” of the job as a sex worker was so great that it was easy to lose sight of her dreams, her passions, her purpose and priorities.   During her 2nd trip to Brunei, she began to rediscover those things and find a way out.

Jillian’s book is impeccably written, metaphoric, thought provoking and the type of read that’s hard to put down.
