I was admittedly jealous of my EX for a few reasons. 1. His spontaneity 2. His fearlessness 3. His damned eyelashes! I tried every drug store brand to fancy department store brand of mascara on the market but nothing could rival the length and volume of his god-given lashes. My options only left me with clumps, stiffness, or the stains of emotion on my cheeks instead of the flirtatious flutter I was going for.
Until, that is, the world of beauty finally caught up with my vanity and a new industry was born; spas dedicated to the application of semi-permanent eyelash extensions, ranging from faux silk to real mink depending on my budget. Groupon was my budget so I chose an offer from Red & White Spa in Soho.
I guess three unreturned phone calls over the course of a week was a sure sign that Red & White Spa was just not that into me -- or my business. Trying to book an appointment made me feel like a stalker. Even after finally connecting, I still had to wait another three weeks for my vanity to be satisfied. But then, fifteen minutes prior to my appointment, and literally blocks away from the spa, they cancelled on me! Feeling snubbed and irritated, I rescheduled for the next day since I'd already paid for the service.
Before hopping on the rock-hard massage table for the 1.5 hour procedure, I did happen to notice that my eyelash technician didn't have any lashes herself (insert side-eye). She also didn't talk this eyelash extension virgin through any part of the blind procedure; not even the parts that would possibly sting. With sharp tweezers and toxic glue hovering over my eyes, I was completely at her mercy. But when I finally opened them, I was instantly enamored with my subtle yet dramatic new look. But I was done trying to keep the attention of Red & White Spa.
I went to a new spa to remove the many stragglers that had surprisingly clung to my natural lashes for a little over a month. And to get a new set of falsies, of course. But I was mortified to find out that the technician at Red & White Spa had used so much glue that it reduced my natural lashes to stubs. They were broken and damaged just. like. hers.
