Happily Ever After

This Indie Girl needed a bat cave. A sexy hideaway to swirl whiskey around my tongue, rendezvous with my thoughts and avail myself to coy flirtation. An unpretentious spot to reminisce over the curated sounds of old school hip-hop, soul and R&B; the unforgettable hits that served as the soundtrack of my life.  A place for my body to fly free on the dance floor without opportunistic strangers interrupting my flow and taking advantage of my swaying hips (unless said strangers were hot).

I found my bat cave in the most unlikely of places: Putnam's Pub & Cooker in the Fort Greene/Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn. Think 19th century, NYC-styled saloon serving Fish-n-Chips, Bangers & Mash and Shepherd's Pie.  But the basement; yes the basement, represents Putnam's soulful alter-ego with its full service bar, cavernous booths, cast iron bars, exposed brick walls and a sexy amber glow. I entered the bat cave and into the Bond Girl Experience where the inimitable DJ Beverly Bond and founder of Black Girls Rock helmed the turntables. The bass became one with my pulse; resonating through my bloodstream, urging me to forget any inhibitions or feelings of awkwardness from rolling up in the spot Indie Girl-style.
