Turn-Ons: The desire for Pilar lingered long after I'd eaten.
Turn-Offs: Pilar was a little stingy with the amount of love on the plate.

Sometimes you need a hole in the wall Cuban spot with Celia Cruz wailing "Guantanamera" like you need a big ol' hug from a barrel chested man. Lonely times call for community tables and comfort food to soothe the soul. Absolutely no-frills Pilar Cuban Eatery, located in the ever-evolving (gentrifying) Brooklyn neighborhood of Bed Stuy, embraced me in a way that made me feel loved and all its little imperfections seemed to disappear.
Pilar's lack of physical appeal might cause people to overlook its potential for giving oral pleasure. But it deserves to be a little cocky and not fuss over first impressions. Those willing to disregard its less than flawless appearance are treated to a mouthwatering and memorable journey to the festive isle of Cuba. Or Miami, at least.
I indulged in the daily special of Vaca Frita that found harmonious rhythm with my taste-buds as my hips obediently shimmied and swayed in my seat to the musica Latina. Shredded skirt steak seared with onion, garlic and lime juice; served with white rice, black beans and tostones was the comfort I craved and the healthy reminder that substance and chemistry trumps outward appearance. (Although I'm still a sucker for a hottie with substance and chemistry)
