I'm attracted to talent. Especially raw, uninhibited talent. In fact, there's no greater turn-on for me than to observe an artist completely absorbed in the process of their own creativity. And after watching MeShell Ndegeocello do her thaaang at the Highline Ballroom, a NY hotspot bordering the pulsating Meatpacking District, I think I'm in love.
Pressed up against the stage and sipping a full-bodied shiraz, my body became enveloped in the passion and emotion from which she sources her musical expression. Man, the way she funk'd me with her eyes closed as if recalling old memories or searching for even deeper meaning behind the words she crooned so soulfully. She (& I can't forget her dynamic band) created her own brand of cosmic, screaming, orgasmic funk, jazz, rhythm and blues. Her voice seduced me like fine woven silk gently caressing my soul as her adept fingers strummed out basslines that throbbed and reverberated throughout my body. It was a hypnotic, out-of-body experience that left me feenin' for more.
But her performance was more than just mind-blowing ecstasy of auditory pleasure. It created for me an unforgettable image of the delicious exhaustion that comes from fully living your passion and purpose. I wanna get funk'd like that all the time.
