Always turned on by a strong sense of integrity and a compassionate spirit, I knew we'd get along well. And after facebook stalking him (like I do before all first dates) I was even more turned on by bold statements like "If you don't recognize an ingredient, your body won't either." OR "'My great grandmother's legendary bread recipe used xantham gum in it'- said nobody". OR "Lead, uranium & cocaine are gluten-free also. Watch out for health buzzwords." But I truly felt the sparks of a lasting romance when I read this bold statement on their website: "We're here to start a revolution". My heart raced.Visionaries turn me on!I couldn't wait to meet Hu Kitchen in person.
First impression? It was like walking into an industrial forest; polished steel and shiny glass cohabiting with natural woods and serving pre-industrial food (PIF) in the heart of Union Square. I was intrigued by Hu's honest philosophies and aversion to gimmick, gluten, sugars and GMOs. Instead, favoring complete transparency and quality ingredients to craft unprocessed meals, snacks and beverages without forsaking the importance of flavor. I started to feel overwhelmed by our undeniable compatibility and Hu's extensive menu. My characteristic indecision finally led to 1/4 organic rotisserie chicken with coconut sugar and sea salt brine, roasted brussel sprouts, spicy sweet potatoes and a bottle of triple filtered watermelon water. Our "conversation" was a delicious mix of savory and sweet comfort that nurtured my soul like reuniting with an old friend. But things got more intimate with my first bite of Hu's Almond Butter & Puffed Quinoa Chocolate Bar. ORGASMIC and totally memorable. Definitely a love affair I intend to nurture and explore.
